Photo Guide

I use reference photos to create my artwork, so providing me with a good quality photo of your pet or chosen wildlife makes the final piece much better!

Below are some examples of good photos I have used in the past:

  • Ideally, I need to be able to see individual hairs in the photo. This means that the photo is clear enough and taken from a good distance.

  • Animals show a lot of expression in their eyes. This is why it’s really important to have a photo where the eyes are clear and bright. Taking a photo in natural light without a flash enables this.

  • I find that holding a treat next to the camera encourages the pet to stay still and focused. Make sure you are crouched down to their level, so that they are not looking up at the camera. A slight side angle can sometimes provide a more interesting composition!

Below are three photos I would not be able to use because they are either taken too far away, the eyes are not clear or the angle of the face is too severe.
